Do you have some special memories of Folkestone you’d like to share? Perhaps you used to visit the Rotunda regularly and met your partner there, or used to gaze in wonder at the rock being made in the Old High Street, or maybe you used to have a secret den in The Warren? Or maybe you know someone in your family, or a friend who likes to wax lyrical about their memories or has some funny anecdotes?

We want to hear your happy memories of our lovely town so that we can add them to our audio story trail. People will be able to listen to the stories via QR codes on signs around the town. We hope that by sharing your stories, we can help people connect – and reconnect – with one another during these difficult times.

To take part, all you need to do is record a quick memory, story or recollection that you’d like to share and send it to us. We’ve provided helpful hints and tips on how to do that here. We will be running some workshops over Zoom to help you think about which story to share, how to make your story come alive, and the technicalities of recording them. These will be held on the following dates:

  • Saturday, 27 February at 11am
  • Wednesday, 3 March at 7pm
  • Saturday, 6 March at 11am
  • Wednesday, 10 March at 7pm

If you’d like to take part, please register here.

Folkestone StoryMap: Your Stories is an extension of our existing trail, launched in early 2021, which features fictional stories from local writers. This new project was made possible thanks to funding from the National Lottery Community Fund (Local Connections Fund).
